The male rat, which was later nicknamed Cooper, was sold exclusively to snake feeds with his relatives in the New York pet store.
Cooper and other rats from this cage were considered to belong to the decorative breed of dumbo, but their ears were quite ordinary (dumbo rats had large ears), and the coat was of the usual reddish color like wild rat-pasyuki. Therefore, almost no one bought these rats at the pet store.
When 55-year-old Pauline Maureen came to this store and saw a sign on the cage with rats "On the food of snakes", she felt very sorry for rodents. Without hesitation, Maureen bought the whole cage with these rats in a pet shop and brought them home.
And then one rat got out of the cage and went for a walk on the sofa. At this moment, the cat became interested in the rat Pauline, nicknamed Prudence.
Three years ago, Prudence was picked up from the street and Pauline took her from the shelter. Prudence may have previously been familiar with rats, but when she saw this rat, she did not show any aggression, and after all she came up, lay down next to her and began to lick the rat as if it were her kitten.
Now they are close friends. Pauline gave the rat the nickname Cooper and Prudence and Cooper spend a lot of time together.
